Mystical Easter Island has long been a dream of mine–and although its tricky and expensive to get there–it will be well worth it to stand amongst the fascinating Maoi which are in danger of extinction! Easter Island is a Chilean island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, at the southeasternmost point of the Polynesian Triangle in Oceania, famous for its 887 extant monumental statues, called moai, created by the early Rapa Nui people. OF COURSE we will have to check out Chile as well as its famous wines! Since most of us are coming from Chicago, we are adding one pre-tour hotel night as a precaution for flight delay due to winter weather!

Feb – DEPART USA (Date includes optional pre tour hotel night)

Feb – ARRIVE SANTIAGO, CHILE…Welcome to Chile, South America’s longest and narrowest country, with more than 2,650 miles of beautiful Pacific coastline. A group transfer is provided to your hotel (normal check-in times apply.) FREE DAY!!! *Note: Group needs to arrive together on the same flight, or at approximately the same time, for the free group transfer to the hotel. Individual transfer costs can be quoted separately

Feb (Fri)- Tour begins late in the day with a spectacular drive through illuminated downtown Santiago before reaching a local restaurant for welcome dinner. (Dinner)

Feb (Sat) – SANTIAGO…Tour the bustling city of Santiago and admire its mix of old and new. Travel through the downtown area, passing by Club Hípico, a thoroughbred horse-racing track in the city’s oldest residential area; and Parque O’Higgins. From here, head along the famous Alameda, Santiago’s colorful main avenue, toward the heart of the city, passing Chilean University, San Francisco Church, and Santa Lucia Hill, site of Santiago’s founding in 1541. A visit to LA VEGA CENTRAL MARKET provides a fascinating overview of typical Chilean food, including steaming pots of cazuela & humitas, similar to tamales. Continue to Plaza de Armas, the cathedral, and the bohemian Bellavista district on the way to San Cristóbal Hill for the finest views of Santiago and the Andes. Then drive to the Maipo Valley. In 1883, Don Melchor Concha y Toro brought in French vine stock from Bordeaux and contracted eminent French enologist, Monsieur de Labouchere, to prepare his first wines. Today, VINA CONCHA Y TORO is one of the largest exporters of wines in Chile and has obtained countless prizes of quality both in Chile and abroad. The company has always been the leader in adopting new techniques, updating its equipment and facilities for vinification processing, storage and bottling. During a walk through the beautiful park you will get to know the old Casona (from outside), the vineyards and then discover the ‘Devil’s legend’ in the old & dark bodegas. No visit would be complete without a TASTING of several of their wines! (Breakfast)

Feb (Sun) – SANTIAGO. EXCURSION TO VALPARAISO & VIÑA DEL MAR… Travel west toward the coast to colorful VALPARAISO, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and headquarters of the Chilean National Congress. Pass by the main square and view the monument honoring the 1879 Battle of Iquique before driving to the southern side of the city for spectacular views of the bay. A drive along the coastal highway brings you to the seaside resort of VIÑA DEL MAR. Admire some of its famous beaches, the flower clock, casino, and elite summer homes. (Breakfast)
